BAPA Kiting Camp - Saturday, October 6, 2012

Kiting camp and Site Intros, Vallejo, Saturday October 6, 2012

Coaching by Joel McMinn and Joe Cruz
Improve your ground handling = build safety and confidence in the air

10-2pm at Vallejo's DILLON kiting valley.  Two acres of grass, free of rocks cowflop and fences, caressed by smooth reliable marine breeze from the Carquinez straits.   Practice your kiting and forwards in all winds.  High wind kiting is especially fun here - no rocks or fences obstruct your drag  so "get up and try it again".  If less than 10mph sample the new Training slope.  Around noon we'll startup the Kiting wars - planning a ladder-type knockout competition for P1 P2 P3 and P4.   Overall winner gets a Sausage bag courtesy of Oxygen Paragliding.

Conditions permitting we'll spend the afternoon providing appropriate site intros of Benicia and Vallejo sites.
Dillon, Channing (east & west) and Blue Rock.  Later - Applebees?

Bring shoes or boots with a good grip because brown grass is slippery.  Suggest water, hat, chair.

Check the message on 707-YOU-SOAR  day-before, morning-of, and throughout the day for changes or to catchup with participants.
Additionally, please RSVP to Joel McMinn (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) in advance if you are interested.

Next BAPA Fly-in - Next Weekend at Dunlap, September 22nd-23rd, 2012

Hello Members!

The next BAPA Fly-in will be held at Dunlap next weekend September 22nd-23rd.  This fly-in was originally scheduled for Potato Hill, but due to the recent fire we have moved it to Dunlap.

Dunlap is one of the most consistent sites around.  Note that Dunlap is a P-3 site.  Please RSVP to me asap if you're thinking about coming to Dunlap next weekend, and I'll set up an Evite with all the respondents in the next couple of days.

For information on where we will stay/camp look for more information from me later this week.  Don't book anything quite yet.  I am looking at an alternative option for lodging/camping.

I'll be following up with more information on driving directions and food information as we get closer to the event and know how many are coming.  If unfamiliar with Dunlap, please read up the site at www.flyzephyr.com/dunlap.htm and the local club's webpage at www.flydunlap.com/  Note that everyone needs to pay their yearly flying dues to the local club prior to flying at Dunlap.  Details can be found at the weblink above.

As a reminder, please email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you are planning to come to Dunlap!

Coastal Cleanup at Mussel Rock and the Stables THIS Saturday, September 15, 2012 - 9am-Noon

BAPA Members and Bay Area Pilots,

This Saturday, September 15, 2012 from 9am-noon is the California Coastal Cleanup Day.  BAPA has supported this event together with the Pacifica Beach Coalition in the past and will continue to do so this year.  We will be volunteering at two of our favorite flying sites, Mussel Rock and the Stables.  I will be helping to coordinate the BAPA effort at Mussel Rock and David Sondergeld will be coordinating the BAPA effort at the Stables.

Information on the event can be found on the Pacifica Beach Coalition's website:  www.pacificabeachcoalition.org

Please make a serious effort to come out this Saturday morning to volunteer and show the community that we as paraglider pilots are committed to preserving this spectacular part of California's coast that we all love to fly.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

See you all on Saturday!
