BAPA Dunlap Fly-in, June 2-3, 2012

Hello Members!

The next BAPA Fly-in will be held at Dunlap on June 2nd-3rd.

Dunlap is one of the most consistent sites around.  Note that Dunlap is a P-3 site.  Please RSVP to me if you're thinking about coming to Dunlap, and I'll set up an Evite with all the respondents the week prior to the fly-in for coordination.

A good place to stay is Sequoia Highlands. This is just a couple of minutes walk from the Dunlap launch location, up on the ridge.  We will need to coordinate on bringing cars down to the LZ before flying in the mornings, so we'll factor that in to our timing.  Sequoia Highlands offers cabins for rent, with bathrooms, kitchens, etc.  Camping is also available at the site with access to bathrooms and showers.  In addition, they have a recreation room, where we gather to eat dinner.  Let's plan to do a Potluck on Saturday night.

Details on Sequoia Highlands are available here...

To make a reservation, it's recommended to call Smoky at 559-336-9425.  A reservation for camping is not required, but cabin's are for sure.

I'll be following up with more information on driving directions and food information as we get closer to the event and know how many are coming.  If unfamiliar with Dunlap, please read up the site at www.flyzephyr.com/dunlap.htm and the local club's webpage at www.flydunlap.com/  Note that everyone needs to pay their yearly flying dues to the local club prior to flying at Dunlap.  Details can be found at the weblink above.

As a reminder, please email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you are planning to come to Dunlap!

Thanks,

First 2012 BAPA Fly-in, Potato Hill - April 21st-22nd

The first BAPA fly-in will be held at Potato Hill on April 21st-22nd.  If you haven't already, you have a couple of weeks to dust the wing off and get some practice ahead of getting out to the mountains.

We'll plan a Potluck Dinner on Saturday night.  Please let me know if you plan on attending by replying to (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ).  The week before I'll set up an Evite with the attendees where we can plan out dinner, work on rides, etc.

If you have not been to Potato Hill before please look at this link to get more information:
http://www.flyzephyr.com/potato.htm

We will be camping at Dixie Glade campground on the side of Potato Hill. There is additional campground room at Letts Lake. The camping is primitive and somewhat remote: there is an outhouse and fire pits but no water, and the nearest store is about 40 minutes away. Please plan to bring all the food and water you will need with you.  There is a 5 dollar per night fee for camping there.

NOTE TO NEWER PILOTS:
Potato Hill is informally regulated by BAPA and Sonoma Wings and although there are no rating requirements please be aware that it is a (usually) lee side mountain thermal site with an LZ that often has thermic, turbulent air (it's poppy!). If you have little to no mountain experience Potato can be a good place to build your skills but you should plan to fly early in the day and/or in the evening if conditions allow.

See you soon!
