The next BAPA meeting is on Wednesday, July 8th, at the Summit Pointe Golf Club in Milpitas. (See Meetings for directions.) This is close to Ed Levin. We've moved the date to accomodate those attending the Rat Race, so I'm sure we'll get to talk about that, and all the great flying we've had so far this year. The social half hour starts at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. Please come to eat and socialize at 6:30. For entertainment, there will be a slideshow from a Costa Rica paragliding trip that a number of Bay Area pilots took earlier this year. Come check out the flying, and get a run down on some of the flying sites. Please come! Our club needs your participation at meetings in order to get member input on issues and activities. At this meeting we'll talk about a variety of items including the possible state park closures which could affect Mt. Diablo and Mt. Tam, the opening of the Coyote Point flying site, supporting Honza Rejmanek in the X-Alps and any other topics that members would like to discuss. Please come to the meeting and bring your ideas and comments!" Thanks, Mike Activities Co-Director |

As most of you know our governor has proposed closing most of our state parks including Mt. Tam & Diablo as part of his budget proposal. This not only effects us but makes no economic sense as according to the Cal Parks Foundation every $ spent on the parks returns over $2 in tax revenue from surrounding communities. I called the local office & they suggested going to http://calparks.org/ & signing their petition which automatically gets sent to the governor, your local state senator & representative. Additionally one could contact those people directly for further input. |

The activities list continues to grow. Here's the latest update for June and July... The Fly-in last weekend at Dunlap was a big success! About 20 pilots came out, and there was great flying both days. Saturday night's dinner was also fun, and the recreation room had the pool and ping pong going into the night! It was good seeing gaggles of pilots all over the place, as the famous Dunlap consistency was working well. June 19-21: Hat Creek Fly-in! Come enjoy the Hat Creek evening glass off. Kevin will be sending details later, as the event gets closer. July 18th: I'm excited to announce BAPA will be having a Kiting Clinic in July! Bay area location to be determined. Nova Dasalla has volunteered to help you improve your kiting skills. As many of you know, Nova spends a lot of time flying, and a bunch of time kiting, as well. And, he thinks you should, too! The better you kite, the better you control your wing in numerous situations. So, it's great that Nova has volunteered to help us out! We will also have our bi-monthly BAPA meeting on July 1st in Milpitas. Here, we will finalize the August and September Fly-in schedule (hoping for 1 in each month!) Regards, Mike and Kevin Activities Co-Directors |

There is a potential new site being explored in Vallejo (yay!). However there are still sensitive discussions underway with the landowners, so PLEASE - Do Not Go There (not even just to look). There have been reports of banditos flying the site, which could jeopardize the entire deal (boo!).
If you want to find out more about the site, or learn how you can help, please

(Also, when you talk to Joel, he can hook you up to fly Channing Hill in Benicia - Joel is a good guy to know in that area!) |

Last Thursday, one of the pilots had their car broken into. Some valuables were taken. The car was parked along the hill, in a very visible spot. However, the passenger front window on the hill side was shattered, and some items were taken. Other items that were of value and in reach were not. No witnesses that I know of. The pilot arrived around 1, and when they returned to their car around 7, they found the damage. This was a pretty busy day, the sun was out, and at least a dozen pilots on different launches waiting for conditions to pick up. Many people coming and going, either walking dogs, fishing, or flying. So, personally, this wasn't a day or a situation I would have thought to be ideal for a break-in. So, I just wanted to send a reminder to to keep your valuables out of sight, or leave them at home, if you're parking at the coast. Mike |
