The second Fly-in of the Spring will be back at Potato Hill in three weeks on May 22nd - 23rd. We had a great trip in April, and we'll look to repeat the flying and fun! We'll plan a Potluck on Saturday night. Please let me know if you plan on attending. The week before I'll set up an Evite with the attendees where we can plan out dinner, work on rides, etc... If you have not been to Potato Hill before please read the site guide to get more information. We will be camping at Dixie Glade campground on the side of Potato Hill. There is additional campground room at Letts Lake. The camping is primitive and somewhat remote: there is an outhouse and fire pits but no water, and the nearest store is about 40 minutes away. Please plan to bring all the food and water you will need with you. There is a 5 dollar per night fee for camping there. NOTE TO NEWER PILOTS: Potato Hill is informally regulated by BAPA and Sonoma Wings and although there are no rating requirements please be aware that it is a (usually) lee side mountain thermal site with an LZ that often has thermic, turbulent air (it's poppy!). If you have little to no mountain experience Potato can be a good place to build your skills but you should plan to fly early in the day and/or in the evening if conditions allow. See you soon! Thank you Georgette and Joe!
We had a great earth day clean-up at the dumps. Huge thanks to Georgette and Joe for leading this fine effort. Largely due to their work the dumps was pretty clean _before_ the cleanup, but after the pilots and 4H folks got through with things a couple of hundred pounds of trash was collected. It was also nicely flyable starting very early, with few folks showing up to fly considering what a nice day it was. http://picasaweb.google.com/UncleSocks/DropBox?authkey=Gv1sRgCNKXv-CB_v7WLw#5464144235783622786

Earth Day Clean-up 2010 at Mussel Rock is TOMORROW, Saturday, April 24th from 9:00 to 11:30am. This year it would be great to have more paragliding pilots in attendance, since we use the park so often. Just a half hour or so of your time would be greatly appreciated and participants can RSVP to me at

BAPA is happy to be offering its first XC Clinic! It will be held on May 15-16 of this year either at Potato Hill or Dunlap. Tom Moock will lead the clinic, which focuses on taking pilots already confident in their thermal skills and expanding their knowledge to Cross Country Flying. This is a great opportunity to learn the ropes of preparing for and attempting XC flights from an experienced XC pilot. The clinic is limited to 8 participants, and should have the following minimum requirements… P3 Rating 15 hours of thermal flying Attendance at a Thermal Clinic (BAPA or otherwise) Strong Launch and Landing Skills (not necessarily in a designated LZ) Radio and Vario GPS strongly recommended. There is no cost to BAPA members. If you are interested, please
