BAPA club information

Welcome to is the website of the Bay Area Paragliding Association (BAPA). Our club started in the early 1990s and has grown to be a large, active community of pilots sharing sites, knowledge, and - most importantly - lots of flying.

Our communication started with RidgeDancer, our newsletter, and attempts at a phone "bulletin board" for sharing information about when it was flyable. Various technologies have been tried for getting the word about when it's flyable to our diverse members spread throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond, but we're still trying to find the magic means for letting everyone know where to go and when.

This site is intended primarily for sharing information about longer-range plans and providing a reference to more static information. We also have been able to get our Membership database online, making it easier to join and manage the membership information. However, it was the target of a major (random) hack attack and had to be completely rebuilt from scratch in February 2012. So a lot of our reference material is only slowly being added back to the site.

Thanks for visiting, and we appreciate your patience while we get our online club back up. Meanwhile, hope to see you in the air!

BAPA as an organization is dedicated to keeping local pilots informed and safe, but of course this information is freely available to ensure broad distribution. Joining BAPA helps defray the costs of maintaining local sites and publishing the newsletter; however, most importantly, joining BAPA supports the efforts of the organization in educating and supporting paragliding pilots in the Bay Area.

Why Join BAPA?

This website is made possible by BAPA, since there was a registration fee to be paid. Member dues also pay for the club activities, such as fly-ins, clinics, parties, and more.

Most importantly, BAPA dues pay for site insurance for four local sites: the Stables and Mori Point, two coastal sites on GGNRA land, and two mountain sites, Mt. Tam, in Marin County, and Mt. Diablo, in Contra Costa County. BAPA also funds various site improvements at all local sites.

Also, please join us at one of our Meetings, to meet other pilots and learn more about our club.

BAPA Meetings

BAPA meetings are held bi-monthly:

  • the first Wednesday of every other month (Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Sep, Nov)
  • 6:30pm: Social Half-Hour
  • 7:00pm: Official BAPA Meeting

The social half-hour starts at 6:30 p.m. so you can order your dinner and socialize before the meeting starts at 7pm. All locations offer the full menu and will create separate checks for everyone.

NOTE: Our previous meeting places have either closed or proven to be unworkable (too loud for our presentations). The location of each meeting will be posted on the website and emailed to all Members in the days before the actual meeting.
